Pat Walther has been cooking since she was in grade school when her dad, Bob Kranze loved to cook. Cooking was his passion and passed that along to his daughter.

In September, 2007, Pat & Larry Walther were watching Guy Fieri's show, Diners Drive-Ins & Dives when he was visiting a mechanic in New Jersey. The mechanic starting BBQing for his employees and ended up building a rotisserie in a trailer and was serving hundreds of sandwiches per week. That was Pat's inspiration. She turned to her husband and said, "That's what I want to do."

It was in August of just last year when the Walther’s made their dreams a reality by opening their smoked barbecue business “Whatsmokin’?”, at Highway 30 and Little Brennan in High Ridge, MO.  The couple had taken an older model travel trailer and converted it into a commercial kitchen. Along with their homemade smoker barbecue pit on wheels, they began serving up deliciously smoked pork, beef, chicken and ribs.  Pat also bottled and sold her own homemade special recipe sauces; a sweet and smoky and a tangy and spicy.

Pat knows her way around the kitchen and was a bit of a local cooking celebrity in April 2008, when she appeared on the Fox network’s Rachael Ray Show. Pat was chosen as a contestant and flown to New York City to appear on the “Hey Can You Cook?” challenge.

During the past 14 months the Walthers’ have served up their smoked barbecue at several community events, company picnics, business events, socials and to the general public.

Last summer the couple moved their business trailer from High Ridge to a more convenient location on the West Outer Rd. in Jefferson County.  As business continued to grow, the Walthers’ set their sites on their new permanent address.

The new location’s Grand Opening was on November 6 & 7, 2009, when they celebrated with live music on Friday by Lenny Frisch, and Saturday with Terry Beck.

They have expansion plans based on growth potential; the possibiities are endless. Time will tell. As the business grows and those in the community continue to tell their friends and family how much they enjoy the food, the Walthers will add to their business little by little.

They want to thank you in advance for stopping in. They can't wait to MEAT you!!
